Nursing Staff

The GM Major Trauma Network is building a portfolio of courses and training programmes for utilisation across the city to assist in the trauma training for staff who work in ED.

The GM Trauma Intermediate Life Support course (GM TILS) has been developed for nurses. All hospitals in the regions were invited to contribute to information resources for the course materials which are available to be downloaded and used at hospital sites in GM to enable you to deliver the course locally and as frequently you wish. All procedures are standardised and agreed as best practice with photo guides and guidance.

There are future plans to adapt the course for ward staff and Allied Health Professionals (AHPs) to support the completion of national competencies in trauma care.

Medical Staff

The Networks medical education strategy includes the development of  a trauma training  in ‘Firefighting Skills’ course.

This 3 day cadaveric course has been specially designed for surgeons, anaesthetists and Trauma Team Leaders and teaches a broad range of necessary skills including;

  • assessment skills
  • surgical procedures such as clamshell thoracotomy,
  • front of neck access
  • control of massive haemorrhage.

Surgical Fire-fighting skills

The GM Major Trauma Network has an interest in sharing resources to the region and many educational study days have been provided by specialists to share resources and enhance care delivery outside of the specialist centres
