The admission of a student to the programme will be based upon the reasonable expectation that the student will be able to fulfil the objectives of the programme and achieve the standards set.
Preparation for course
- Fully up to date with mandatory training
- Successfully completed a period of locally agreed preceptorship
- Completed pre-course competency document as determined by the Critical Care Skills Institute
Clinical Requirements
- Healthcare registered
- Working clinically a minimum of three short shifts or two long days per week in an appropriate environment
- Has worked in their current area for a minimum of 12 months
- Has access to an appropriate individual on their unit to mentor them through the course. 40% of clinical practice hours should allow for contact with their mentor/ supervisor over the duration of the course to allow for supported clinical practice, review, and assessment of personal progress for the duration of study
Other Requirements
- Demonstration of the ability to study at the chosen academic level – this will involve submission of a 500-word written academic piece to the local Practice Educator in critical care – the Educator will give feedback to the potential applicant as to whether they consider them ready to apply for the cohort, or whether the application should be delayed and further study skills undertaken before embarking on the course
Additional Criteria for Level 7 Study
- Provide evidence of previous level 7 study in the United Kingdom within the last 5 years, or evidence of level 6 degree result 1st or 2:1 in the United Kingdom within the last 5 years
- Have the agreement of their manager and practice educator to study at the higher level
